Ulu Ulu Temburong 14 April 2009

One year later, I am back.
Again with Mark Weng and his assistant Ally.
Back to the Ulu Ulu National Resort for a day trip, to challenge my fear of height.
This time, i said to myself, at least stop in the middle of the track and enjoy the view a bit.

    Like last year,
    • Pickup from hotel
    • Reach Bandar jetty
    • Take boat to Bangar for around 45min
    • Another Van ride of 30min to Long boat jetty
    • Long boat ride of 20min to Ulu Ulu Resort

Ulu ulu resort is currently under construction. Upon arrival, whatever nature one might enjoy is being replaced by ugly sights of crane and piling sounds. Don't matter, objective is not to stay overnight at the resort anyway.

After some beverages and registering in, we are all set to go. Unlike last year, which we hike all the way from the resort, through the suspension bridge to the canopy walk, there is a detour ala shortcut this time round. I heard from our longboat driver that the suspension bridge is currently being "serviced?" and that's the reason we were being transported via short cut much closer to the canopy walk.

Short walk of maybe 10min and there we are.
We were there first, before the rest of the tour group. I was still collecting my breath and my pschy for the task but Mark was eager to up the canopy already.
Damn, okay Mark went first, followed by Ally with me at the tail end.
After around 2 flights of stairs, Ally decided to pull out. Great, heaping more pressures. My legs are crumbling below me and now i have to match the speed of Mark.

Why does the whole structure have to be like moving side to side, can't they just be still!
Nevertheless, long story short, I climbed up, walk across and came down the canopy, wihtout really breaking strides.
I FAILED yet again. This is the consolation pic i took with a teenage girl in front of me, who managed to catch up with me. I guess i was that slow and careful.
As evident from the photo, i wasn't really paying attention to anything else but to get down to GROUND LEVEL. I reckon i wasn't so bad, there were a couple of macho guy who didn't do the climb.

Had our lunch then. I recall having the same dishes last year. Hmmm....my legs are still "lembut".
This year something different did occur tho, the guide brought us to a small waterfall for a swim.
It is located along the river and have to walk into the forest to find it.
Its like a hidden treasure thingy. Shoes are now wet but clean from mud.

Can't wait to go home. Maybe same time next year, i shall learn to stop and admire treetops and forest.
